  • There's an enormous play area near us that just announced that only children under 52 inches will be allowed in.  They were getting complaints of bigger kids knocking down little kids.

Frankly, I'm sick and tired of parents of 2 yo's complaining about older kids.  YOUR CHILD IS A BABY.  They are not designed to climb 15 feet in the air, crawl through tunnels, and go down enormous slides.  Take them somewhere to play that's designed for small children.  Same thing with the baby pool - it's perfectly fine for a 2 yo to stay in the baby pool the entire time, but 6 yo's coming in the water during adult swim is horrific.    Older kids play more roughly than younger kids, it's true.  It's also NORMAL.

Maybe it's more annoying for me because I have a 2 yo and a big for his age 8 yo.  I'm getting severely limited in the places I can take everyone.    But the issue isn't big kids - it's the ability of children of any age to play considerately around other people.  I've known plenty of 2/3 yo's who hit and even bite - no one banishes them from playgrounds or the pool.  But an 8 yo that knocks someone over while running from one place to the other is too big and dangerous to let on the playground.

    Whatever...

hmmm, I don't know. I have a 3 and 6 year old, and I never appreciated going to playgrounds where there were older kids either. Now , my older is getting on the "older side" of things plus during the day I think most moms, and rightfully so, expect play places to be more toddler oriented.

So I tend to take her to parks and stuff rather than say the mall playground or McDonald's.

I suppose there's something to be said on both sides.

I don't even GO to the mall with everyone because my older three are too big to play there safely.  At McD's, I just keep an eye out.  But this place is a 3 story tall warehouse full of tunnels and slides.  It's clearly meant for older kids - who now can't play on it.

That's not a playarea designed for preschoolers.

    Hi Mary!

Are you talking about the indoor play thing at the "Spanish Mall" near Carowinds, or somewhere else? Always looking for new play areas in Charlotte.

I really will try to get in contact with you the next time we are in Charlotte. We tend to do short trips these days, and our days are taken up with visits with the cousins. :)

    Hope you're doing well!
